How Chelation Removes Toxins When Nothing Else Works

Heavy metal isn’t just a style of rock music. It’s also a descriptor for a number of toxic substances with which you might come into contact. For example, lead, arsenic, and mercury are all heavy metals that can cause poisoning, or toxicity.
If these toxic metals get into your system, you might have symptoms like abdominal pain, weakness, and numbness. Heavy metal poisoning also increases your risk for kidney, liver, and brain damage, along with certain kinds of cancer.
If you have toxic metals in your system, Dr. Jonathan Singer and Jacqueline Woodrum, DO, can help. At our HealthFirst offices in Greenwood Village, Colorado, and Cheyenne, Wyoming, we offer treatment specifically designed to get these metals out of your system: chelation therapy.
How chelation therapy works
If a test has shown that you have overly high levels of toxic metals in your body, we might recommend that you avoid exposure to those poisons. In some cases, your body can then deal with the toxins on its own.
However, if your levels don’t change or are already dangerously high, chelation is a proven way to remove the toxins. Treatment means having our team introduce high-quality calcium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) into your bloodstream intravenously (via IV).
There, the EDTA binds to the metals in your body. Once it’s grabbed onto those metals, your body can process them out via your urine or bowel movements.
At HealthFirst, we also offer vitamin and antioxidant IVs as part of chelation therapy. This further supports your detoxification.
Finding out if chelation therapy is right for you
Chelation therapy isn’t right for everyone. To decide if you need this kind of treatment, Dr. Singer undertakes an extensive evaluation of you and your symptoms. He’ll talk with you in detail about any exposure you’ve had to heavy metals and order lab work. This lets him see if you have high levels of poisonous metals or if another condition could be behind your symptoms.
If you are a candidate for chelation therapy, we administer the calcium EDTA IV. That usually takes 30–60 minutes.
Dr. Singer schedules additional lab work after your treatment to see if your metal levels are below safe thresholds. If not, we can repeat treatment until your body gets rid of a sufficient amount of these metals.
If you think you might be living with heavy metal toxicity, chelation therapy might be the best treatment option for you. To find out if it is, contact the HealthFirst office nearest you and schedule an appointment with our team.
